1985 lADY wAVE bASKETBALL

In 1985, Meade County High School witnessed a defining moment for girls' athletics when the Ladywave basketball team captured the first regional championship in program history.

At a time when expectations for girls' basketball were still being formed, Coach Bobby Pollock stepped into leadership with a clear belief in the young women he coached. That belief became reality as the Ladywave broke through and set a new standard for what was possible at Meade County.

This episode of Greenwave The Stories of Our Community features Coach Pollock alongside former players Dina Diney Hackert, Shelia Davis McBenge, and Sylvia Davis Fraley. Together, they reflect on a historic season that did more than bring home a championship. It created opportunity, confidence, and a legacy that continues to shape the Ladywave program today.

Coach Pollock’s impact is permanently honored on the Meade County High School basketball court, a reminder of leadership that saw potential, built belief, and empowered student athletes to go make a difference.

Greenwave The Stories of Our Community continues to preserve the stories that shaped Meade County Schools and the people who proudly call this community home.
