During Opening Day Ceremonies earlier this month, Meade County Schools proudly recognized Mrs. Whitney Raney, Language Arts Teacher at Stuart Pepper Middle School, as the 2025 Teacher of the Year.
Multiple colleagues nominated Mrs. Raney, who has served 20 years in Meade County and 24 years in education overall. Their nomination highlighted how she embodies the district’s standard of “Students First, Team Always.” Known for setting high expectations while keeping learning engaging, Mrs. Raney has created a classroom environment where students thrive academically and personally. Her influence reaches far beyond middle school, as former students often stay connected and share how her impact shaped their success.
Her colleagues described her as a teacher, coach, and mentor who goes above and beyond, putting in extra hours, attending school events, and supporting students in the community. They noted her ability to inspire teamwork, resilience, and leadership in students and staff. Her positive presence and commitment to others make her a respected and beloved figure at Stuart Pepper Middle School and across the district.
SPMS Principal Dr. David Phillips said Mrs. Raney’s approach reflects her deep commitment to students, noting that she is “committed to every student's learning. She challenges them to think deeply while showing them they are cared for and valued. That balance is what makes her remarkable.”
Superintendent Dr. Mark Martin emphasized the lasting impact of teachers like Mrs. Raney, sharing that “when students look back on their time in Meade County Schools, they’ll remember teachers like Whitney Raney. She represents the very best of who we are—educators who love kids, believe in them, and inspire them to do hard things. Recognizing her as Teacher of the Year is a way of recognizing the heart of teaching itself.”
Mrs. Raney’s recognition as Teacher of the Year is a testament to her unwavering dedication to students, her leadership among colleagues, and her deep investment in the Meade County community.
Each spring, an awards committee composed of students, employees, and parents seeks nominations from across the district. Individuals nominated for this award may then choose to fill out an application for competitive consideration by the committee.
Congratulations to Mrs. Whitney Raney on this well-deserved honor. Her contributions to students and her community will continue to be celebrated for years to come.
