Greenwave Stories: It Takes a Team to Win
Some teams are remembered for winning championships. Others are remembered because of what they overcame together before that championship ever arrived.
The newest episode in the Greenwave Stories series, It Takes a Team to Win, tells the story of the 1993 Meade County Green Wave baseball team — the first baseball team in school history to win a regional championship.
The season did not begin with signs of championship success. Meade County opened the year with eleven consecutive losses, facing early challenges that could have easily defined the team’s season. Instead, players and coaches describe a group that stayed connected, continued working, and slowly developed trust in one another.
As postseason play began, that growth became visible. The Greenwave defeated a top-ranked team in the state during tournament play and continued advancing, culminating in a memorable run that culminated in a regional championship victory over North Hardin.
More than three decades later, former players and coaches still describe that season as one defined by resilience, belief, and a shared commitment to the team.
This episode reflects on how meaningful accomplishments are often built quietly, long before the final celebration, and how one team helped establish a lasting chapter in Meade County baseball history.
