We’re excited to introduce a new series highlighting The Journey of a Greenwave and the character traits our students need to succeed in school and beyond. Each month, we will focus on a new character trait and teach students what it looks like in action. Students who consistently embody that trait will be recognized and featured as Flaherty’s Finest.

We’re proud to kick off the series by celebrating January’s trait: Resilience— honoring students who pushed through challenges, learned from mistakes, and kept moving forward.

We are so thankful for the incredible support our Family Resource Center has received! 💙 From our internal team donation challenges, to Girl Scout Troop #1491 providing Meals in a Bag, to local families donating bags—and even cartfuls—of groceries and even appliances, our community continues to show up in amazing ways. We’re also grateful to the churches that have reached out to partner with our center in support of Flaherty families, as well as for donated appliances and countless other items that help us better serve families on our Flaherty campus. A special shout-out goes to our custodial team, who are always rolling out dollies and wagons to help before they’re even asked! Thank you for being such a generous, caring community.

Introducing Flaherty Bookopoly!

Flaherty students are rolling into reading with our new Bookopoly game! Students read across different genres (or “streets”) on the game board to collect points and earn prizes along the way. The more they read, the more they earn!

📅 We’ll be playing through April, and all students will be recognized when the game ends.
🍕 The top 25 point earners will enjoy an exclusive pizza party, and the top 2 readers will earn a gift card!
🍎 Even our teachers are joining the fun with a Teacher Bookopoly challenge.

Let the reading—and friendly competition—begin!

We want to let our Flaherty families know that we have recently updated our school dress code policy. The new changes are highlighted in this post to make them easy to identify. These updates are intended to support a safe, positive learning environment while remaining practical and comfortable for students.

We encourage parents and guardians to review the updated policy so everyone is aware of the expectations moving forward. The full dress code can be found in the student handbook and on our school website.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to help our students focus on learning and success every day!

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Flaherty Service Center, the Knights of Columbus, Schuler Bauer, Meade County Bank, and the Flaherty Elementary PTO for their incredible generosity in helping purchase house t-shirts for every student and adult in our building. This meaningful gift was a wonderful surprise for our students and truly helped build school spirit and a sense of belonging for our entire Flaherty family. We are so grateful for your continued support of our school!

We are so proud of our students for the focus, effort, and determination they showed during our three days of MAP testing last week! To celebrate their hard work, every student who gave good faith effort earned an ice cream sandwich at lunch today! And the rewards didn’t stop there...based on goals met, students could earn a chocolate bar, a Dairy Queen coupon, or shopping from an Amazon pallet! Way to go, Blue Devils! We are SO proud of the hard work you put in. 💙📚

We will be administering MAP tests on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. It’s important that students are present and on time each day so they can do their very best!

These assessments help us measure student growth and achievement throughout the year. We appreciate your support in encouraging students to get a good night’s rest, eat a healthy breakfast, and come to school ready to shine!

What an incredible night! Thank you to all the families who joined us for Flaherty’s Festival of Trees. Your support, smiles, and holiday spirit helped make the evening truly magical.

Our students shined on stage with their Christmas music performances, and seeing our community come together made the night extra special.

We collected over 1,000 food items going right back to our community!

Thank you for celebrating with us — we are grateful for each and every one of you!
Happy Holidays from all of us at Flaherty Elementary!
